Chris Kirby’s review published on Letterboxd:
A sleazy women in prison exploitation film from the early 70s is exactly as advertised. There's comfort in this knowing and Sweet Sugar does offer all the promises it holds. It's just not on the level with the quality of its storytelling for the first hour. The final 20 minutes or so really ramp up and provide a great ending to the film but it's a lot of work getting there. I say it's worth it for the ending sequences (hell, I'll probably revisit the film just for the ending) but unless women in prison exploitation is something you really enjoy it'll be rough. Though I guess there's sick merit in having a scene that made me physically uncomfortable while watching, so there is that.
