This is what you get when Yorgos Lanthimos does a period piece. Hardcore BARRY LYNDON vibes. And you’re going to be hard pressed to find a better trio of performances this year than Colman, Stone and Weisz.
Seems like it could really sweep up a ton of acting and technical Oscar nominations, which is quite hilarious because the story is so dark and weird and NOT Oscar-y. The photography and set design are truly masterful in every way.
The last thirty minutes does drag more than a little as it becomes quite repetitive. Not sure I would have a problem with that the second time around. All worth it though for that insane final shot.
