Trudie’s review published on Letterboxd:
I've seen Scary Movie so I pretty much knew all the big spoilers but this was still a lot of fun. Craven's self aware horror flick succeeds in making fun of its genre while still taking itself seriously and holding weight when it needs to.
The scares are good, the twists are well timed and the characters are likeble, except for all the unbearable dudes. I really only liked the female characters. The killers were surprisingly good after the reveal and actually really seemed psychotic. I loved the self analysis the characters do on themselves and their predicament.
The third act is so exciting and I kind of want to hesitatantly watch the sequels now.
I'm really not a horror fan but this just might be the thing that starts my transformation into one. A really fresh and new feeling take on a well defined genre.
