Thought giallo films would be an easier sell for me at this stage of viewing. Maybe not. Too much of what I dislike about this genre and not enough of what I can appreciate. Not for me.

I forgot this was by Scott Derrickson. So there is a base level of quality going on here. You start to feel its length towards the end and the last bit gets pretty silly. And the ending feels like either a studio note or someone ran out of money, it's very abrupt and the weirdest of some of the awkward tonal shifts that show up in the film. But there's some legitimately creepy moments, the actors are all solid and it's well made. If you're a fan of demonic horror and police procedurals of the Seven variety, there's worse ways to go.

YO. Go in as blind as you can, don't nitpick it too much and see with an audience. This is easily going to rank as one of the (if not the) scariest fun rides I've had all year. Also, the rare film where the jump scares are EARNED.

    The Found Footage Phenomenon

Found a couple of new films out of this, and there's some good scholarly discussion. But felt like it emphasized some films while having some key omissions (nothing on the VHS series, nothing outside Host for computer/phone tech, no social media focus). I love horror documentaries (and found footage horror) but this one became somewhat more background than engaging. Watch if a horror doc fan, but was hoping for more.
