Oscar’s review published on Letterboxd:
Despite the cinematography and special effects being absolutely stellar, the film as a whole failed to do much for me. The third act, especially was almost comical. The whole movie is building up to something, and it’s a shame that this buildup ends up leading to something I would go so far as to call laughable. Aster certainly has talent, but there are certainly some fields he, as an artist, could improve in.
Despite my criticisms, I like the premise, and though I’m repeating myself, those visual effects are stellar. I haven’t been this squeamish in quite a long time. The acting and pacing were good during the first 2 acts, I think everything starts to fall apart in the 3rd. I feel as if much of the movie was wasted potential, however, the good parts do still outweigh the bad.
