If what you want out of a movie is all Willem Dafoe all of the time, this movie is going to give you the most bang for your buck.

From a visual perspective this movie is a marvel, absolutely consistently stunning cinematography throughout. In most other respects it's a very well done film overall, and does an excellent job portraying the horrors of war. However in doing so it loses the excellent character moments the original film had, and I find that this makes some of the more gruesome story beats lose the impact they should have held. In particular one very poignant death scene in the original feels…

Part of me feels like im overrating this, but even then it's still easily one of the best films of the year. The ending of this is so bizzare and creepy and amazing. The performances are great, but subtitles are definitely preferred... and I did not have subtitles. Regardless, really fucking good, and its difficult to find any flaws in this that aren't subjective.
