Alec Greer’s review published on Letterboxd:
Decided to let the experience sit with me and now I can pin some notes on Avengers: Endgame...
- The final act is what cinema is all about. Fanservice at its finest, emotional satisfaction at its finest, absolute pure filmmaking at its finest. The Russo Brothers peaked as directors there.
- The final shot of the film is my favorite shot in all of the MCU. Absolute perfection, the most bittersweet note they could’ve ended on.
- Out of all the arcs that wrapped up, Steve Rogers/Captain America’s arc wrapped up the best. The Russo Brothers understand Cap similar to how James Gunn understands the Guardians and Peyton Reed understands Ant-Man.
- This might not be 100% the end of the MCU, but it is truly the end of the Avengers and it was the end they needed. I’m honestly hyped to see the MCU go back to smaller scale, more standalone films. Bring on Far from Home, bring on Guardians Vol. 3, bring on more Black Panther, etc.
- I love you, Tony Stark.
