Things got even too weird for me in Big Tuna. Otherwise it was plodding in the middle half--lots of Dern pretending to pose for a hair metal video. The movie is peppered with compelling actors and they don't get to develop their characters. It was fun watching Cage karate dance. Wizard of Oz references were...kitschy I guess.

Maudlin. The vignettes were too short to be memorable. I bailed after the one about the monks. It was a disappointment after the raw and layered, Open City. The American actors were wooden.

I've watched it several times. The plot is compelling, and distilled passionately here. Guy Pearce is a great bad guy. This is a fun adventure with some dark undertones. I really like the whole Master Splinter scenario--gives me the fuzzies (really though).

I grew up watching this movie. I was perplexed. I am still, in a good way. I read the book and the writing was horrible, but the plot and imagination overcame it. Cool costumes--just weird at first, but you quickly accept them. Charlton Heston has the perfect intense acting style for "thrownness." There is also some creepy sexual tension that only could have been created in 1968 sci-fi. One of a kind.
