Grim Street Grindhouse’s review published on Letterboxd:
The Phantom of the Opera as filtered through The Rocky Horror Picture Show. While this did come out a year before the Rocky Horror movie, the Rocky Horror Show stage production had already been running since 1973. It certainly feels like it had some influence here, but I can't say that for sure. Suffice to say, if you like Rocky Horror you may like this one, too.
What really makes this movie is the music. Holy wow, it's so good! All of the musical numbers are just fantastic. Add that to just the right amount of camp, and you've got an unexpectedly good flick. No, it's not perfect. There is a character played by Gerrit Graham who is basically a walking stereotype. That's a bit grating at times.
When all is said and done, though, it's very enjoyable.
