    Toy Story 4

    ★★★

Absolutely unnecessary and retroactively dampens the impact of Toy Story 3's superb send off, however, if taken on its own terms Toy Story 4 is still a fun ride.

The reimagined Bo Peep, in particular, is fantastic and there is a lot of heart in here.

However, as with Dory, it certainly seems as though the series is getting very loose with the "rules" of the world at this point.

    Avengers: Endgame

    ★★★½

Surprisingly average given the rapturous reviews I've seen popping up.

At least it slows the hell down, spends a little time with the characters and tries to deliver some surprises.

But unfortunately Endgame still has zero consistency in its world logic (blown up AND crushed by a building = not a scratch, punch in the face = out cold), and is overstuffed with silly mumbo jumbo/magic/space powers etc. that have no explanation or consequence.

Better than much of the MCU but ultimately I still didn't really care.

I must admit, I am keen on The Asgardians of the Galaxy though, especially if Korg is involved...

It took me two viewings to finally come to terms with how I feel about Interstellar.

There was a lot I disliked about this film. There’s loads of silly exposition (NASA scientists explaining to other NASA scientists how science works), clunky dialogue (“You’re the best pilot we ever had”), structural imbalance (the sudden perspective shift to underdeveloped earth characters 90mins in for cheap attempts at drama), and an oddly rushed conclusion (we’ve waited three hours for Cooper to be reunited…

    Mad Max: Fury Road

    ★★★★½

And I thought the trailer was intense...

A rare bastion of wild creativity within a world populated by endless, safe, cookie-cutter Marvel sequels.

    See it.
