Please note that this is NOT a personal attack on anyone, it's just a small rant about a trend on Letterboxd that's really starting to annoy me a little, and I feel the need to call it out.
I would just like to start by saying that I definitely appreciate followers, and feel it helps me grow as a member of this site. The problem is that in the past year or so, I've noticed that about 75-90% of the people who follow me, are only doing so to get as many people as they can in their list of follows. I'm not one to rag on other users, but this is a phenomenon that's beginning to bug me greatly, and I don't understand why people do it. I follow somebody if I like their stuff, or if they're actually kind enough to like my stuff in which case I'll be more than happy to follow them back. I don't see the need to follow dozens (or even hundreds) within an hour in the hopes that I'll regain some follows back, which for me defeats the whole purpose of this site in the first place.
Sorry if I come off as bitchy or whiny or whatever. I'm generally very respectful and civilised with everyone on here, but this is quite simply a practice that I feel needs to end. If you are one of those who does this, I'm not going to insult or ridicule you for doing it. All my question is, why exactly?
