Surprisingly one of the worst DCU movies so far.
Big emotions, great dramatic stakes, and beautiful visuals. As someone who thought the first Black Panther was just ok, this movie hit so much harder. I even teared up at a specific scene (don’t want to spoil it) I just wish it was 30 minutes shorter and cut a couple of characters.
It's really baffling to me that WB thought this level of grimdark dourness would appeal to a mass audience. In comparison, the Nolan Batman movies feel like lighthearted comedies.
That said, I had more fun than I expected. You can't deny that Snyders crafted this movie with love and a vision. It's just not a vision that I share for the characters.
16 year old me would have loved the seriousness, the angst and the over the top violence, but…
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
It's been a long time since I've seen a movie, that played with my expectations like Looper did. Just when you think you know how the plot will develop, it turns into something else. Though I must admit that I did expect a big, final twist a la 12 Monkeys that, surprisingly, never came. Still, Looper is a thrilling, well directed movie with fantastic acting (especially JGL's Bruce Willis impersonation), inspired production design, and the general feel of an instant-classic.
