Rent-A-Pal ★★★★

I really enjoyed this; it wasn't quite what I expected (this was more psychological where I expected a more literal approach), but the lead performance from Folkins is great. A very sad film more than anything, that takes its time building up to more straightforward horror elements. Great work on the production to capture that late 80s, early 90s aesthetic, very drab and mundane in that particular way. The synthy score has some good cuts, but sometimes is a little too stylish and upbeat for what feels suited to the film overall (most notably in the opening and closing credits). A tragically believable drama, not too far removed from modern parasocial relationships we see online today.
