Once Upon a Time in America

Once Upon a Time in America ★★★★★

Sergio Leone’s gangster epic Once Upon a Time in America is one of the greatest films ever made. I have seen this film twice now, but this was my first time seeing the 4h and 11 minute director’s cut.

This is the most gritty, realistic, dark and sad depiction of organized crime in america and how that affects people. Literally everything about this film is perfect!

The score by Ennio Morricone, the structure, the storytelling, the script, the acting from all the leads (especially Robert De Niro and James Woods), the cinematography which is beautiful and of course, Sergio Leone’s directing! This is one of the most emotional, beautiful and sad films ever made. Ennio Morricone’s score is definitely a part of what makes this film so good. It is definitely one of his best!

I want everyone to watch this already if they haven’t, it is criminally underrated and not discussed enough.
