"You monsters got me feeling like a monster in my own town!"
Bold, visually striking and original filmmaking with a PUNCH. Great writing that specifically tackles the black lives matter movement and the complexities of being black and living in a city/area like Oakland. One of the funniest films I've seen and yet intense, thought provoking and tough. Some of the most incredible sequences, particularly the nightmare sequence!!! and the final monologue. The music and the rap monologues (which could have been distracting) created this frantic energy of frustration, anger and pain - feelings bubbling under the surface until they have no choice but to explode. This is wonderfully depicted by lead Daveed Diggs in one of the most powerful and heart wrenching monologues I've ever seen in a film.
Blindspotting deserves more awards recognition for its screenplay which is really great. It (and Widows) is possibly the most culturally relevant film of 2018 and the two films would make a great double feature.
Holy cow, I will not soon forget this.
