I loved this movie from beginning to end, and I know we all have our opinions but the mass of negative reviews this film is getting boggles my mind a little. When the reviews started rolling in, I thought for sure this was going to be another X-Men 3 or Spiderman 3 (or in DC's case another Green Lantern), but that was not the case, at least not for me.
The film is of course not without its flaws with some corny dialogue and scenes in certain places, and it tends to lose it's momentum at points, but I am far from disappointed.
I am one of those people who if asked would say I am a Marvel fan, but I also can appreciate DC's Cinematic Universe as well. Batman and Superman have been with me since I was little kid in front of the television watching their various cartoons.
I liked that Snyder and company addressed the many flaws of Man of Steel, now those complaints I agreed with. Clark Kent/Superman is still in his infancy of becoming the Superman we know and love. He's not perfect; he makes mistakes. He doesn't think about what type of consequences his actions can have on people. I loved this take on Superman. I thought Henry Cavill did a good job of embodying this. He still doesn't know how to interact with the public or take the criticism. He's a rookie Superman that has to learn to do better.
I have to say that I loved Ben Affleck's take on Bruce Wayne/Batman. I've seen a review on here about how terrifying he was, and I agree and I loved every minute of it. I noticed during the film that this Batman doesn't have the same qualms about killing people like the previous incarnations we've seen. I really don't know what to think about that because this is an older version of Batman that has been through the fire and constant fighting of villains. Maybe he just gave up on that oath. Now, I am excited to see a standalone film for this Batman because he's that different from the others we've seen.
I did not get to see the badass of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. My theater's projector clocked out and I didn't see the last big fight. Will be going back to re-watch and see the full ending. I've already read spoilers and know the ending.
Onwards, I know Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor is something you either love or hate. Personally, I saw him as being the son of the Lex Luthor we have come to know over the years, and I thought that it was an interesting move. He did a wonderful job to me. He may not have been completely scary or intimidating, but I think that was the point. It's not his appearance that should scare you; It's his actions. Now, we know what he's capable of and how far he'll go to win.
Loved the fight between Batman and Superman. Thought it was well done. Of course, I don't like watching my favorite superheroes duke it out, but it looked cool. Pray for me for Cap 3.
Just those few minutes of Jason Momoa as Aquaman had me so hyped. He looked so awesome. One of the main films I'm excited for.
This is probably the longest review I've written on here, but I just had to get my thoughts together for this because I just didn't agree with the criticisms being lobbed at it.
I love Marvel, and I like their approach to the superhero genre, but I like how DC approaches it as well. It's different, it's darker, and it forces us to really ask what makes a superhero?
