  • An American Werewolf in London

An American Werewolf in London 1981

Congrats Diana and Charles, many happy returns!

  • Not Okay

    Not Okay 2022

Watched by Conal 06 Aug 2022

First half of the film is trying to two different films and failing at both. But at least the 3rd act picks a direction and mostly pulls it off. Curious to see what this filmmaker does next.

  • The New World

    The New World 2005

Watched by Conal 27 Jul 2022

Watched the extended cut, thought it fumbled a little in the final thirty minutes but after sleeping on it I've changed my mind. My favourite Malick, which says a lot. An exercise in myth making where the insidious reality is always just under the surface.

    The World of Apu 1959

Watched by Conal 09 Jul 2022

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

I think if I was Apu I’d abandon my son as well. My presence is definitely leading anyone near me to an early grave

Gorgeous, gorgeous film. So glad I put off watching these films for so long cause now I get to see them all for the first time at the BFI.

  • Lux Æterna

    Lux Æterna 2019

Watched by Conal 25 May 2022

Was at a Vortex Q&A a few weeks ago and Noe described the shoot of this film as a mess and the use of split screen as a means to an end in order to salvage the edit. It’s amazing how well it works even if it’s hard to say the film has much of a narrative through line. My levels of anxiety were sky high throughout and the final 10 minutes are transcendental on a big screen.

    Massive envy…

  • Dune

    Dune 2021

Great film for when you just want two and a half hours of vibes

  • Everything Everywhere All at Once

Everything Everywhere All at Once 2022

For the last few months I feel like I’ve been trying to convince myself I still like cinema post Covid. This film showed me I still love cinema
