Mass ★★★★

MASS features some of the best acting you will see all year. The four leads are not channelling the aura of a historic figure, loosing themselves in an accent or costume, or feasting on Oscar bait sensibilities. In a small bland church room, sitting across from each other over a folding plastic table, they create a vast emotional landscape. This is the best of theater, and you are lucky enough to have a front row seat.

I'm NOT surprised to learn MASS was directed by an actor. I'm SHOCKED to learn it was the actor who played "The Fool" in Cabin In The Woods. Funny guys can be deep! Incredible first outing for writer/director Fran Kranz and shout outs to cinematographer Ryan Jackson, and editor Yang-Hua Hu for keeping a virtually one location film so engaging.
