  • Nashville

    An intimate American epic.

Alternately critical and optimistic, Nashville channels its immense scope and ambition into crafting a portrait of an America reluctant to succumb to its own chaos.

As Altman zooms in-and-out and weaves his way through the lives of these characters, he develops intimate narratives for each one of them by minimizing plot in favor of personality and conversation - and music. As we witness each character pursue their respective goals, Altman never chooses sides, instead revealing the…

    Paper Moon

Where has this been all my life?

Paper Moon is the epitome of charming and clever cinema. It has one of the most endearing relationships I’ve ever witnessed, the best child performance of all time, and perfect comedic timing.

It has the most proficient balance of emotion and humor. It replaces sap with wit at every opportunity, and it blends realism with slapstick. Its comedy never feels insincere, even when it breaks up otherwise poignant moments.

    Lost Highway

I understood nothing, and it was glorious.

First Lynch movie in a theater and first time seeing Lost Highway made for an unforgettable experience.

I am looking forward to watching this many more times; hopefully figuring out more each time. All I know now is that this is a technical marvel. Everything that isn’t plot had me wide eyed. The plot, on the other hand, still has my head spinning.

+ Back to back Henry Rollins appearances!

I somehow didn’t connect with this at all the first time I watched it a couple years ago. What was wrong with me?!?!?!?

Mann, Kilmer, De Niro, Pacino. I mean come on! Do I need to say anything else?

    + Bonus Henry Rollins appearance!

    Top Gun: Maverick

“The Navy needs Maverick. The kid needs Maverick. That’s why I fought for you. That’s why you’re still here.”

I almost pissed my pants during the finale. 1. Because I drank a large coke 2. Because it was so goddamn exhilarating. After the movie ended, I talked excitedly about the movie with an older guy while waiting in line for the urinal. I love seeing older people so enthusiastic about new movies, and I miss seeing the theaters this crowded.

  • Aliens

    This is so badass.

I basically had no words for Alien, and that’s the same with its sequel. Two things about Aliens do bother me though. 1. The Xenomorphs lose a lot of their mystique and intimidation as waves of them get shredded to pieces. 2. Newt kinda sucks.

Otherwise this is pretty damn great.
