The more I think about this the more I see this as being in conversation with Bergman’s Persona.
In Persona Elisabet Vogler is stunned into silence by the horrors of televised warfare. In the opening scene of The Addiction, we see Kathleen Conklin’s face staring at photos of the My Lai massacre. In both cases it is the confrontation of man-made horror that sets into motion the unravelling of the self that both characters go through.
Persona is also a vampire film - an impressionistic one…
