    Best film of 2018? Possibly.

A slow-paced, gruelling character study in which Hawke gives a career best performance. It’s wonderful to see Schrader back on top form, this time making a gruesomely intense film from start to finish.

EDIT - It’s now been a few days since I saw this film and it’s had a profound effect on me. I’ve began keeping a journal, I’ve ordered the works of Thomas Merton, I’m considering going vegan again and I’m looking at pursuing a career in film. Thank you Paul Schrader.

But really, the moment that makes this film is when J.K. Simmons does that little dance at the end. Wonderful. Really, really wonderful.

    Watched on DVD.
