Lupin the Third: The Castle of Cagliostro

This reminded me of a James Bond movie, which I love. The chase scenes and guns were unexpected, as well as that detective (who was he?). Production for this was completed in 4 months (what?!). Now I want to watch more animated crime films.

Here are some similarities and differences I saw vs more recent Miyazaki films:

    1. Scenery camera pans
    2. Delicious-looking food
    3. Cool 1960s Italian cars

    1. Face structure (got more complex)
    2. Detail
    3. Music? (maybe)

  • ParaNorman

first time watching this. this is not only a good Halloween movie, but also a good overall fall movie. i could watch it in September or November and it would be good. i like the small towns that Laika is setting their movies in, as well as their world building. i liked that Laika was experimenting with more detail in hair, costumes, buildings, etc. Lots more fine detail compared to Coraline, and you start to see more of that detail in later movies.

Until Laika Production Studios creates a The Witches adaptation, I’m not watching it.

we should just have more stop-motion animation and independent animation studios create Roald Dahl adaptations.

    So far, we’ve got:
    -Fantastic Mr. Fox
    -James and the Giant Peach
