Hayden Welch’s review published on Letterboxd:
“All my dreams are lost and I can't sleep. And sleep alone could ease my mind. All my tears have dried and I can't weep. Old emotions, may they rest in peace and dream. Dream a bunch of friends, rest in peace and dream, dream it never ends”
One of the most imaginative and stylish musicals of the seventies, every frame a painting and every song a production. Brian De Palma wears his influences on his sleeve but that’s by no means a bad thing.
A wonderful leading trio guides us through this eccentric tale; each performance more enjoyable than the last. Jessica Harper is absolutely magnificent and on an entirely new level from Suspira — a film I also adore mind you — in this melodramatic role. William Finely and Paul Williams are equally bizarre and both embrace their characters happily.
