“Vacation, all I ever wanted
Vacation, had to get away”
Jon Watts’ follow-up to his interpretation of Spider-Man is really a cute and enjoyable little film that is full of the same charms you’d expect. The witty writing and excellent supporting and main cast really help the immersion. I’m really glad Zendaya and Jacob Batalon were more extensively utilized.
I’m glad they decided to tackle Mysterio using one of my favorite contemporary actors and he didn’t disappoint! This hero-villain dynamic wasn’t one of my favorites but Jake Gyllenhaal was a true highlight.
I wish this felt more small scale and it’s structure wasn’t as reminiscent of the other Marvel Cinematic Universe endeavors; our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man feels as distinct from his title as any number of gargantuan heroes.
(To fans of the series.)
