Chris Haydon’s review published on Letterboxd :
Without Tilda Swinton, this movie would be entirely doomed.
Every moment of visual invention in DOCTOR STRANGE (and not all the visuals are amazing by the way; many are like crummy PlayStation 2 graphics...) is paired with clichéd and recycled origins tripe, inept humour and poor character development.
Mads Mikkelsen and Rachel McAdams - two of the finest talents at work today - are entirely redundant here. Their roles could have been occupied by anyone. To waste such skilled performers is inexcusable.
Benedict Cumberbatch plays magic Tony Stark (come on guys, this is just IRON MAN with added HARRY POTTER) with confidence and prowess, and Chiwetel Ejiofor is given enough yardage to run in a hopefully developmental role. It is the aforementioned Swinton however who steals the show. She is unquestionably the finest asset to the cast and indeed the film's entirety.
I hate to say this guys, but the truth is that Marvel are rapidly running out of meaningful stories to tell.
