Assault on Precinct 13 ★★★★½

I thought long and hard about if I should give this 5 stars or not. As you can see, I eventually decided against it mostly because of a few shortcomings. They’re hardly avoidable shortcomings for a low budget movie that came out in the 70s.
John is one of my favorite directors, and he has a few dud’s in his filmography (looking at you The Ward) I can say whole heartedly this isn’t one. It’s score is super underrated. It adds to the atmosphere and I would argue that it’s some of Carpenters best work.
This is a great neo-western siege movie that actually reminds me of Night of the Living Dead. It’s gritty and bleak and a helluva fun thriller-action movie.
All and all, I think this is an under appreciated Carpenter film and it’s definitely worth watching.
