Lee 💫HEAVEN SURROUNDS US LIKE A HOOD 💫’s review published on Letterboxd:
features some of the most terrifying and all-consuming images to make it into such a mass-appeal blockbuster. this summer has been a whiplash of emotions for me; I’ve been pretty fucking sad about a lot of things as of late, and what Nope captures, and what resonates and brings joy to me, is the wordless lust for the spectacle, driven by nothing but hunger for a greater beauty. a love letter to the sheer capture of images, informed in its history, seeing a future untethered from the monopolisation of hollywood, using all it can in editing and sound to self-reflexively devour both the audience and itself. the blockbuster for this time. ride off into the sunset.
(dont think i didnt peep that Akira reference, I got u Peele)
