Inside Llewyn Davis ★★★★★

It took me a while, but I finally got around to seeing The Coen Brothers' Inside Llewyn Davis. And it is unquestionably my favourite film of theirs from what I've seen so far. It is a melancholic, dreary and often witty character portrait that is outstandingly lead by Oscar Isaac. The film doesn't really have a story to tell, nor does it go in any particular direction, it's just a dramatized observation of a fictional character's life - and it's utterly captivating to watch. The supporting cast (Carey Mulligan, John Goodman etc) are good, but ultimately they don't really matter, because it's Isaac's film and he owns it. I look forward to seeing his future projects as he's definitely an exciting new talent. The soundtrack's also really awesome and the cast - especially Isaac - are fantastic singers.
