Okay. Alright. I'm going to start this by saying that I should not have needed three viewings to obtain a solid grasp of this film. After all three experiences, I still don't understand at least 15% of what I saw. I think mining this movie once and reaching the conclusion I have would've felt just as satisfying as my mining it over three watches - but that doesn't mean the gold I saw wasn't great.

    I think Tenet is as…

A towering achievement for its era and another huge leap forward for cinematic technique. Weber and Smalley’s introduction of visual character perspective takes filmic storytelling to a whole new level, completely leaving behind the rudimentary wide/long shot norm of the previous era.

Putting all that aside, I simply had a great time watching it.

What I think I’ve learned, or at least have confirmed in my head, from this - cinema is intimate. It is that intimacy that makes us…

Sometimes you run into a film that parallels your own thinking in a timely fashion. It takes that which is on your mind to it’s furthest logical conclusion, the conclusion which you haven’t yet reached yourself. And it’s a terrifying experience - because you see more of yourself in the ugliness of the characters then you would ever care to admit.

It’s these experiences that renew my unending belief in art.

Revelations. Wish I could go deeper.

Will be recommending this to Rea.

Pressed the brakes during episode 3. I am surprised this has gotten the attention it has. The writing and the acting were amateur!

    Just a bunch of bullshit.

    Might expand my thoughts later.

EDIT: I'm expanding my thoughts now.

Nolan is the man because when he's at his best he, better than any other filmmaker I've ever watched, perfectly balances and pronounces high-concept, genre defying blockbusters with the human experience, drawing on all our heartstrings. Dunkirk failed for me because it broke that balance, swaying way too far towards the latter component, failing to deliver any of his signature mind-bending originality or brainy…

Okay. Wow. Yeah. Hitchcock is good. Hitchcock is really good. Definitely amongst my favourite directors. The highs of this film are pure cinematic mastery. True embodiment of cinema as a dream.

The lows though, those are very mundane sequences that left my attention wavered. The film definitely could’ve been shaved off 10-20 minutes. This would’ve been an easy 4.5 if not for some of these moments.

Great cast. Perhaps Hitchcock’s best performances. It was a pleasure watching them. Really glad I finally saw Olivier at work. Fontaine is deathly beautiful.

All hail the master of suspense.
