Movie looks fantastic. Lots of time is spent in two particular locations and the set design and cinematography is impressive. The long shots were very much appreciated.
The first half felt long. The scenes in particular seemed not to end at times, but the second half had me way more engaged. Maybe the slow burn was necessary but if there was a way to tighten up the first half I would have enjoyed this film more.
Nadezhda Markina plays the titular Elena and gives an amazing performance that I wanna call understated but it definitely had some power behind it. It's easy to empathize with her character even when things get dicey.
It's about class, family, parenting and modern Russian society. Interesting movie if you have the patience for a slow burn.
