Fascinating. Nothing less I would expect from Dreyer, honestly.
I've come to a point that my brand of faith based films are either hopeful or dreary but always complex. Dreyer really delivers the latter to where I can enjoy this brand of mine.
It's also interesting that this time, there's actual witches in this one rather than just a false accusation alone. It adds on to the truly haunting supernatural atmosphere of the film all the characters feel due to their faith practices, no matter how stringent it may seem to most viewers. They know they have a reason to be afraid, and Anne has that power to execute (pun unintended) that.
