Hot Take Nick’s review published on Letterboxd:
“You’re a wizard, Harry.”
The opening music was so magical, made me even more excited to re-enter this world. I’ve been rewatching the series from beginning to end & will be ranking as I go.
Some of the highlights:
It’s well documented how iconic the score from the great John Williams is. But one thing that impressed me about it on this watch was how at times it took center-stage but at other times it felt very subtle. The pacing for this was also pretty impressive.
The cast looks like such babies in this one. But solid performances across the board for such young actors and actresses. Ron could’ve even been in The Queen’s Gambit with the way he played wizards chess.
A couple negatives:
There were some obvious green screen/CGI moments that I know improve in later movies as the technology improved.
This was a lot more of a kids movie than I remember it being. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. But its the later movies that I’ve seen more recently than the first two so I wasn’t expecting that.
Overall, the one that got this whole thing started is one of those movies that in general just gives you a warm, fuzzy feeling inside as you watch. So excited to go on this journey again.
