Nick Hernandez’s review published on Letterboxd:
There’s gonna have to be some incredible performances the rest of the year for Taron Egerton to not get a Best Actor nomination.
I’m still on the fence on how I feel about how the movie wasn’t centrally focused on the music. I was caught off guard by that both in the moment & still felt that way leaving the theater. Part of me loves how they chose to blend that portion with a microscope view of Elton John’s life. Part of me went into the movie ready for an Elton John jam sesh. The jury is still out for me in that regard. But still an overall great movie.
Also, the actor who played young Elton was phenomenal as well.
And ending the movie with I’m Still Standing was such a perfect choice.
