Skull Island won't be the best movie I see this year but it just might end up being the most fun. It's a throwback to monster flicks of yore, where the characters were easily identifiable and expository dialogue ran rampant. This isn't necessarily a bad thing if you nail the tone and, you know, throw in a metric fuckton of monster fights. The great cast is definitely game from Sam Jackson chewing even more scenery than normal to Brie Larson, who proved to me with this flick that she's more than capable of being a superhero. The true hero is of course Kong who is a clear protagonist from the get, defending his turf from interlopers both within and without. He's an insanely likable character and I hope we get to see more of him. I love the look with its bright color palette, making full and wonderful use of it's island jungle setting. I saw it on Imax in 3D which I don't normally go for. But this one deserves to be seen in the biggest, best fashion possible.
