It’s weird that such a sad movie brings me so much joy but I just really adore this film.
I love watching these characters try and fail to keep their relationship working. The passionate performances just tug at my heart. This whole movie is about conveying a certain melancholic mood and just lets you seep in it.
The cinematography is so insanely gorgeous that it feels like I’m just watching artwork. I also really like how gross and dirty all of the sets are. Because it’s so interesting seeing that contrasted with how beautifully it’s shot. It sets the mood so well because it’s like a beautiful depiction of something toxic - which is exactly what their relationship is.
I just think that Wong Kar-Wai is masterful at his craft and this movie is beautifully tragic.
