If only Lisa Frankenstein had leaned more into the absurdity at moments, especially in terms of the violence and sex in the movie, this would have been Jennifer’s Body-level for me. But alas, this is PG-13 and I am also thinking of the unrated version of Jennifer’s Body, so maybe down the line, this will get a R-rated cut that I love! But honestly, I loved how much personality this film had, whether it was through the expressive color used in…

    Virtual Sundance 2024 Film #6

Being an Asian American 13-year-old trying to navigate eighth grade in 2008 was one of the most challenging times of my life and Didi captured that time in such a wonderful and specific way. I wish I was more kind to myself making mistakes, or saying the wrong thing, or saying a stupid joke, and I accepted I did all those things. Far too much focus in the conversation of this film and it being a propaganda film and not enough about how it’s a film that is right in every way and people deserve to live freed lives. It captures the monotony of class struggle and the exploitation of labor, while also centering the place women have in liberation. And that ending was devastating in every single way.

An incredible meditation on colonization, displacement, and how the advancement of one can sometimes drastically affect the livelihood of another. Breathtaking cinematography is found all throughout this movie and I felt this extraordinary pain watching this film and imagining the past generation looking backwards and hoping there was a world for the next. Every image in this was a painting, a completely unforgettable film.

People are giving this way too much credit, this was awful. Kaley Cuoco and Pete Davidson are two actors I really defend and each have been on a really poor television show that was not representative of their talent, but this was rough. The concept is never fully utilized, they have zero chemistry, and worse, this develops into the worst co-dependent relationship and has really weird moral lessons, like your trauma makes you who you are so you need your…
