The Last Duel

The Last Duel ★★★★

You have to ask yourself if you can accept Ben Affleck as, uh, a 14th century French lord, and I personally feel it was a mistake to treat the time period as flimsy window dressing for a story that speaks (without subtlety) to our current cultural moment, but on a sensory level—the falling snow and pouring rain, the blood and mangled bodies in chainmail—"The Last Duel" is absolutely a 'This is Why We Go to the Movies' Movie. Ridley Scott delivering one of his finest efforts at age 84.
