The Strangers: Prey at Night ★★★

I had to twist my friend's arm to get him to watch this with me and I can't say I blame him: what could one reasonably expect from an eight-years-too-late sequel to a Scott Speedman home invasion thriller? "Prey at Night," then, offers a case study in how a skilled craftsman can elevate material that would have otherwise been destined for DTV shlock. In the hands of director Johannes Roberts, the last thirty minutes of this film deliver some of the most exhilarating horror setpieces of the decade.
