Bizarre and mesmerizing. There's a lot more to this film than meets the eye. The themes of excess and social status are at the forefront, and make you question the entirety of the plot's purpose. There may be financial freedom for the modern bourgeoisie, but it's a prison within itself with the need to keep up appearances. This film left me thinking, and the music was particularly stellar. It's not necessarily a movie I need to see twice, but I'm glad I saw it in the first place.
Imaginative, heartbreaking, and relatable for any middle-school outsider. It's a creative depiction of both the wonder and danger of the worlds we sometimes create to escape reality. There are much needed lessons about friendship, kindness, and learning to say goodbye. Even though the movie can be a downer, by the end I felt emotional and inspired. I love a film with a good takeaway at the end.
Thanks Speilberg for using nostalgia to make something new rather than something we've seen a billion times.
Any fan of pop culture is probably a fan of Ready Player One. The scenes of the virtual world are stunning and made me smile. Guys, Iron Giant is in it!!! There were some issues with believability of relationships, or just making you care for some characters in general, but this didn't make me love it any less. There are some insane scenes that I never expected to see (Stanley Kubrick fans be pleased). A journey you should definitely experience in a theater!
