this is not an exit
kind of smartly written and humorous but very confusing messaging. the film was really concerned with the male perspective of lesbian relationships and in a short montage we see how traditional communicators men use to signal power/ownership in a relationship are translated to two women - who holds the door? who pays for the taxi? - and it makes for something that feels a little short sighted considering the ending, which also makes me wonder about the general audience for the film.
it's miraculously very entertaining though.
while i enjoyed the observations of how gay men both prey on and judge each other, i thought the writing was generally shallow and lacked interiority. instead of developing true characterization, the writing relied on external circumstance (like losing...the house....) to drive the audience's sympathy. the disruptive voice over wasn't helpful and actually made certain moments less funny by over-emphasizing jokes.
the romance was lacking too. need more pining more yearning pls
