Joint Security Area 2000
“After hearing comrade all the time, it's nice to be called brother.”
War is bad, and friendship is good. Park Chan-wook’s style is so brutal that it’s kind of refreshing to see something like this from him. Just guys being dudes, until they’re not. But of course, like all other of his films, it’s a gut punch. The last shot is gonna make me sad for the rest of the week.

Wild at Heart 1990
Just straight up strange and electrifying. It’s so much fun, especially with how extra Nicholas Cage and Laura Dern are here. I could probably watch them scream and dance and cry and sing for hours and hours. I wanna assume Lynch was on a shit ton of drugs while making this so I had to watch it high! It’s an otherworldly experience.

Cries and Whispers 1972
“Come what may, this is happiness.”
Theres something absolutely terrifying about the way Bergman presents dark human thoughts and emotions. Its a tour de force.

Another Round 2020
This was a blast. Lots of drinking, lots of crying, lots of self realization. Sounds like a normal weekend for me!

City of God 2002
Simply doesn’t fail to amaze me. It’s one thing to make something so grand, but the directing, editing and acting makes the entire thing feel so explosive. Full of energy and emotion, City of God is just one of those films that makes you really appreciate cinema.

Only God Forgives 2013
“Time to meet the devil.”
Good ole Nicolas Winding Refn. It’s not bad! I feel like this could benefit from being longer, but maybe that’s just me — Too Old To Die Young utilizes all 13 hours perfectly and this being only 90 minutes long makes me ache for more. One thing I do know for sure is that NWR needs to finish his ultraviolent Ryan Gosling trilogy ASAP.
