I’m almost positive I’ll rate it higher once I see it again, as I’m sure there was a lot I missed. On a first watch though, this is an incredibly fascinating and nuanced look at paranoia and with a fantastic Gene Hackman performance and a great jazzy soundtrack. Plus baby Harrison Ford!
Seeing Robin Williams in his element is always a sight to behold, and this gives him a chance to bring his trademark humor to an otherwise serious and controversial topic, and not only illicit a good amount of laughs but also comment on the nature of the Vietnam war in a way that other similar films haven’t. It doesn’t hurt that the soundtrack is a fantastic compilation of Vietnam War-era classics.
