not big on war movies but something about this movie is special to me at least. i find that many war movies simplify their themes of killing off the enemy and showing the victors celebrating in the end. it seems to go on and on about how bad war is but never really discussing how violence in the battlefield has created invincible scars in the minds of soldiers who never had a say in their country’s faults. but this one goes above and beyond to show the slow and painful realities of war
not to mention the images of paul on the western front compared to the men in suits playing god in their train carriages haunts me like crazy!! the cinematography and score are worth mentioning as one of the best parts of the movie too. i totally understand why its nominated for best picture lol talk to the wall if you think otherwise. a war movie worth watching since 1917 tbh
