The Godfather: Part II

The Godfather: Part II ★★★★★

So damn breathtaking at every moment, more grand and poetic than the first, and even slower as this substitutes Part I's somewhat taut and """""simple""""" narrative for a calmer and episodic one, making so much of this honestly hard to follow. Every watch honestly feels like my first one. The world is rich on a surface level, but even richer underneath through what the characters don't even say or even what they suggest through one line of dialogue. It eventually makes sense, but I still feel like I need to immerse myself into this story more times to truly appreciate it. I love the structure. The flashbacks emphasize a sense of hope that is absent in Michael's story. Having tuff guy Michael unravel to seemingly not loving his family is all the more painful when juxtaposed with the rise of boss man Vito raising his little fellas. Did I mention how good this looks too? Sheish...
