The Magnificent Seven is a competent modern take on the age-old premise of renegades banding together to defend the people. Ultimately, it fails to reach the heights of the films in a similar vein that preceded it.

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children 2016
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children contains a lot of what I do like about Tim Burton films, but then a lot of what I dislike about his films also. With a confusing plot towards the end of the film, and not enough fleshing out of the characters, it ultimately fails to impress.

The Grand Budapest Hotel 2014
Still a magnificent film, and my favourite of Wes Anderson's work (a very close competition). My opinions noted in my original review remain true. I'd dare say I even enjoyed The Grand Budapest Hotel more on this viewing, something I wouldn't have thought possible prior. Just wonderful, darling!

Ex Machina 2015
Ex Machina is 2015's answer to Moon. It is an intelligent and understated, thought-provoking piece of science fiction that will ultimately be overshadowed by the much louder films to come later this year. Much like Duncan Jones' Moon, Ex Machina is a directorial debut, this time for fellow Brit, Alex Garland.
