28-y/o Balagov's sophomore feature, armed with intoxicating performances from his leads and vibrant photography by Kseniya Sereda, all women in their mid-20s, I might add, is an intimate and/but claustrophic portrait of post-war Leningrad. Despite some forgivable pacing issues, the heavy use of ravishing visuals of greens and reds to convey the emotions and state of two PTSD-stricken women, contrasted by the bleakness of the period, is rather impressive.
