Black Mother ★★★★★

The reason I didn’t make a bigger deal of the Tree of Life director’s cut is because the movie can’t grow for me beyond its initial meteoric impact. The film is the film, no matter the length. And I felt like talking about a revised Malick the same year we got this was redundant. You can only hear “Rite of Spring” for the first time once. So why not appreciate something else equally monumentous. And make no mistake we’re dealing with something huge here. Can only imagine seeing George Clinton live when he was young or Coltrane towards the end of his life had the same galvanic effect. My mouth never closed during the whole runtime
