Movie like this is a win-win. If it's bad it'll make people watch California Split. If it's good, we have a good movie in the California Split vein. Thankfully we got the latter. It was never going to be AS good as it's inspiration (nothing is), but it's remarkably confident in these two characters and you certainly couldn't have found a better match in Reynolds and Mendelsohn. I don't have any specific complaints because that would be asking for this film to have been about something else and in a different mode. These filmmakers, these actors, this idea? As marvelous as it could have been. I loved it to pieces.
