The UHD print on Amazon Prime looks pretty amazing. Is it 4K blu ray remastered amazing? Probably not but it’s still the best I’ve ever seen the film look to date.
Watching Thief for the first time a couple of nights ago also makes me appreciate both films in different ways. They both have their strengths and weaknesses, very similar themes throughout but having Pacino and De Niro in peak form on screen together is hard to beat. And Heat is just a little more polished. You could argue either way which is a favourite though.
That shootout sequence both from a directorial and sonic level still incredible years later, Christopher Nolan acknowledging it for the beginning of The Dark Knight. The musical score and artists who fill out the soundtrack, perfectly fitting the Michael Mann ambiance.
And oceans. Mann loves his ocean shots.
