My first viewing ever of Starman. It was always on the backburner, I just always warmed to his horror/thriller fare first. Carpenter really did no wrong during this period. His love of the widescreen is in abundance here, with some gorgeous Panavision photography, the amazing score by Jack Nitzsche, Jeff Bridges Oscar nominated performance, but for me it's Karen Allen who emotionally centres this film. She absolutely shines here. Despite some aging effects work, this is definitely a great Carpenter film that showcases his talent as a director outside of the typical genres he's known for.
Also, watching this in mid 2018, I couldn't help notice some similarities between this and the new season of Twin Peaks and Dougie Jones and Jeff Bridges character. Look out for them, and you'll see many.
